出生于塔斯马尼亚州.其父凯文·莱恩斯从政, 其祖父约瑟夫 莱恩斯曾任澳大利亚总理. 

五岁时随家人至墨尔本定居并于名校Xavier College高中毕业.随后在墨尔本大学主修艺术和法律专业. 

曾在著名律所Gallbally & O’Brien担任书记员,并任文案律师三年. 1993年开始担任David Harper法官助理. 1995年通过了考试取得出庭律师资格,师从Kim Hargrave并很快脱颖而出,成为”商业法出庭律师中的佼佼者”; 2012年任命为皇家大律师. 

2018年5月22日任命为维州高院法官,替代Peter Vickery 法官.
